Selection of new and used tower cranes

A tower crane - is a long-term capital investment on which the pace and safety of the entire construction project depend.
We help in the selection of new and used Liebherr, Potain, and XCMG tower cranes: technical parameters of models, selection criteria, and a full cycle of support, from project analysis to equipment registration or finding a buyer for a crane that has finished work at your site.

Liebherr, Potain, XCMG: overview of models and characteristics

Liebherr - is a benchmark for high-rise construction and facilities with increased lifting precision requirements. The line covers two design types.Flat-top cranes of the EC-H series (Liebherr EC-H 10/2000, EC-H 16/2000) feature a horizontal jib without a peak structure - allowing multiple cranes to be installed on one site with overlapping working zones. Lifting capacity at maximum jib reach: from 1.5 to 3.2 tons depending on the tower unit configuration.

Luffing jib cranes of the L series (Liebherr 71 LC, 81 LC, 130 LC) are used where airspace is limited or a hook lifting height of over 70 m is required.

The serial number and technical passport of each unit are available through ILIEV Solutions' direct communication channel with the Liebherr factory - this eliminates document forgery and simplifies registration with regulatory authorities in Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova.

Technical inspection and certification before registration

Potain (Manitowoc Group) - is the optimal choice for sites with short installation times or frequent equipment relocation. Self-erecting models of the Igo and Hup series unfold without an auxiliary truck crane: Potain Igo T 130 is installed by 2-3 operators in 4-6 hours. Lifting capacity in the basic configuration is up to 6 tons, jib reach is up to 60 m.

A used Potain tower crane with up to 10,000 engine hours and an up-to-date technical passport - is a common request from developers of low-rise residential complexes and logistics centers. Such units are constantly tracked within the partner network in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Romania.

XCMG: lifting capacity and lifting height on order

XCMG Tower Crane (XGA, XGT series) - is a top-tier manufacturer with its own R&D centers and CE certification for the EU market. Flagship models XGT200 and XGT315 provide a lifting capacity of 10-16 tons at a jib reach of 60-80 m, hook lifting height up to 250 m in a configuration with an extendable tower.

A new XCMG tower crane is relevant for large infrastructure and industrial projects where high performance is required at a lower cost of ownership compared to European analogues.

How we select a tower crane model

Project analysis: number of storeys, reach, load weight

Selection begins not with a catalog, but with the site's technical specification. Key input parameters:
  • Building height and crane installation mark: determines the required hook lifting height.
  • Building area and crane location relative to the building: determines the minimum jib reach.
  • Maximum lifting weight: formwork blocks, prestressed slabs, equipment - determines the lifting capacity at the end of the jib.
  • Base type: anchor fastening or rail travel.
  • Presence of obstacles: neighboring buildings and power lines in the working area.
Based on these data, a technical specification is formed, according to which a model with the corresponding characteristics is selected.

If the site involves the operation of several cranes simultaneously, the overlapping zones of the jibs and the installation sequence are additionally analyzed.

ILIEV Solutions supports both options: for new cranes - ordering through the factory or an official distribution channel; for used equipment - search, technical inspection, oversized cargo logistics, and registration with regulatory authorities.

Competence in registering tower cranes simultaneously in Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova - is practically absent among most intermediaries on the market.

Want to sell a tower crane - we will find a buyer

The project is completed, the crane is idle or requires relocation - a typical situation for the construction market. ILIEV Solutions acts as an intermediary in the sale of used tower cranes: finds a real buyer through its own B2B network in Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Moldova, and other markets.

How it works in practice:
01
Providing data: You provide the crane's serial number, model, year of manufacture, operating hours, and available documentation.
02
Condition assessment: ILIEV Solutions evaluates the technical condition and completeness compliance - based on 17+ years of experience with heavy special equipment.
03
Placement: The crane enters an active B2B market: construction companies, contractors, and equipment operators across the region who are already searching.
04
Deal: After finding a buyer - deal support and preparation of documents for equipment transfer.
This work format reduces crane downtime and eliminates the need to independently search for a buyer through public platforms where the target audience is much narrower. ILIEV Solutions' B2B network covers exactly those who buy heavy special equipment for work, not for resale.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to select a tower crane by building height?

The hook lifting height must exceed the building height by a minimum of 3-5 m plus the height of the largest load. For a 16-story building (~50 m), a crane with a lifting height of 55-60 m or more is required. Accurate calculation is performed after analyzing the project documentation and the site layout plan.

Which tower crane models are suitable for narrow sites?

Flat-top cranes of the Liebherr EC-H series or self-erecting Potain Igo cranes are suitable for dense urban development - they do not require a large installation zone and allow overlapping jibs when working in pairs. Luffing jib cranes of the L series are chosen when there are lower buildings nearby and the horizontal rotation zone needs to be restricted.

Is it possible to take a tower crane on a long-term lease?

ILIEV Solutions specializes in the selection and sale of equipment. Leasing as a separate product is not provided, however, in the process of working with a client, it is possible to search for alternative formats through a partner network if leasing is a priority for a specific project.

How long does the selection and delivery of a tower crane take?

For used equipment - from 2 to 6 weeks from the moment of agreeing on the technical specification until readiness for shipment. A new crane through the factory: 3-9 months depending on the model and production workload. Oversized cargo logistics and customs clearance are organized in parallel.

How quickly can a buyer be found for a used tower crane?

Deadlines depend on the model, equipment condition, and market situation. Liebherr and Potain with up-to-date documentation are sold faster - demand for them is stable in the region. After receiving technical data, ILIEV Solutions determines realistic deadlines based on the current state of the B2B market.
